Structural Engineer
My client is a major ship builder based in Portsmouth, Hampshire who currently have a permanent vacancy for a Structural Engineer.

You will require the following skills and experience:-
Educated to degree level in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering or a similar relevant discipline
Professional experience in undertaking structural design and able to task without supervision
Experience in the use of the MATHCAD and FEA packages
Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite

You should be able to work under pressure as operations require structural input to go ahead. Additionally, we require good communication skills both verbally and in writing. Alongside this, the successful candidate must also be able to work as part of the team or individually as you will be required to complete tasks under your own steam but you as also part of small team that provides an important service.
Your main duties and responsibilities will include:-
The primary purpose of this role will be to undertake the structural design in support of production tasks - typically this would include lifting, turning, blocking and transportation arrangements.

may be attractive to candidates who are keen to move into ship deign from other areas of structural engineering
As a Structural Engineer your main responsibilities will involve:
Performing structural calculations - hand calculations from first principles, and using Mathcad and some FEA.
Producing designs that carry low technical risks, are safe to operate and are producible
Monitoring budgets and progress of projects worked on against agreed programmes and deadlines
Obtaining feedback on materials/ structures defects,
Liaising with and providing support to other internal departments
